Minimalism and bioclimatic architecture in Spain
Casa Banlusa is a minimalist single-family home in Valladolid, Spain. The architect, @saraacebesestudio, designed the project following bioclimatic principles and incorporated thermoclay into its construction.
The temperature swing between day and night can be as great as 60°F. To weather those extremes, the architect built the home out of thermoclay –a material that accumulates heat during the day and releases it slowly at night. She also positioned bedrooms on the west side of the home “where the last rays of sun warm them before it’s time to sleep,” she says. Like bedrooms, kitchen –made in wood, natural stone and color white– faces east to take in sunrise first thing in morning; living room faces west for sunset views; separating public from private areas is an outdoor courtyard. Extremely simple arrangement of interiors makes contrast with complexity details.
